The Inspire Internship Camp 2013, under the aegis of the Department of Applied Sciences concluded at Guru Nanak Dev Engineering College on Sunday. The camp was an innovative programme to attract young talent towards Science and was sponsored by the Department of Science and Technology, Govt of India, New Delhi.
The basic objective of the camp was to communicate with the young generation, the excitements of creative pursuit of Science, thus motivating them to opt for research in science.Dean Basic Sciences and Humanities, Panjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana, Rajinder Sidhu was the chief guest.
He emphasised the importance of research and the role of basic Sciences in research. Paramjit Singh Tarsikka from P.A.U Ludhiana was the guest of honour.
Director, Nankana Sahib Education Trust, Gurcharan Singh Gill was the special guest on this occasion. 150 students drawn from various schools of Ludhiana namely, Sacred Heart Convent School, BCM Arya Model Sr. Sec. School, Guru Nanak Public School, Nankana Sahib Public School, Gill Govt Girls Sr Sec School, Gill Govt Model Sr Sec School, Miller Ganj participated in this five- day long camp from August 7 to 11.
Eminent Scientists and scholars from all over the country delivered lectures, held practical demonstrations and interactive sessions with the students.
They apprised them of the importance of basic science in the development of technology. Director of the college MS Saini in his brief speech highlighted the role of basic Sciences in laying the foundation of an academic and professional life. He also emphasised the importance of morality and personal integrity.
Head of department of Applied Sciences RP Singh welcomed the guests and coordinator of the camp Harpreet Kaur Grewal proposed the vote of thanks.
