University of Southern Mississippi business student Blythe Dunaway expects her third visit to London to be a charm — and a whirlwind — as she serves an internship with one of England’s largest accounting firms.
Dunaway, a senior from Columbia, will be interning at Deloitte & Touche from January-April of next year. She is one of only six accounting students selected for the international internships in London.
“I’ve had the good fortune to go there twice. The city is incredibly beautiful,” said Dunaway, who is pursuing a double major in accounting and finance and banking.
“Since it will be tax season, there will be some long work weeks, but the experience will be well worth it. I certainly plan on being involved around the community and completely immersing myself in their culture.”
Dunaway says the opportunity to gain first-hand experience with such a prestigious organization will pay significant dividends.
“Working in a foreign market and seeing how business is handled will definitely give me new perspective in all areas of business and life,” she said.
“I have no doubt that there will be challenges, but this opportunity is literally once-in-a-lifetime.”
As for short-term goals, Dunaway plans to graduate next May and begin the process of becoming a Certified Public Accountant.
Her longer-range objectives include a career that utilizes financial advice and personal growth.
“Those closest to me laugh when I explain my life is planned out on an excel spreadsheet,” said Dunaway. “I have a 15-year goal to become a motivational speaker/financial adviser. Helping others succeed and watching them accomplish the seemingly impossible in life and finance has always given me exceedingly great joy.”
