As we move towards the GOP nomination an important question baffles all of us with respect to the policies and statement made by Donald Trump. What if he eventually goes on to become the President of America and what if he still holds his comments true? Some of the many comments, which we will refer to in this article are:
When Mexico sends its people, they’re not sending the best. They’re not sending you, they’re sending people that have lots of problems and they’re bringing those problems with us. They’re bringing drugs. They’re bring crime. They’re rapists… And some, I assume, are good people.”
Donald J. Trump is calling for a total and complete shutdown of Muslims entering the United States until our country’s representatives can figure out what is going on,”
He claimed the Chinese are “ripping us off left and right,” and their diplomats ought to be taken to McDonald’s instead of to state dinners
As an educator some of his thoughts and beliefs are purely fictional and biased, as he has not really immersed in the cultures of these places. It is in these moments that one feel he as a young man should have been on multiple exchange and mobility programs. As an exchange students one really immerses in a local culture which involves local language, religion, food, festivals and the beliefs which are very different from the host country and as a young man it helps you open up to different thoughts and ideologies.
“Nobody can discover the world for somebody else. Only when we discover it for ourselves does it become common ground and a common bond and we cease to be alone.”
― Wendell Berry
It is with no surprise that a person of stature of Mr Trump may have travelled the world but have never been culturally immersed in the place. The recent statement and opinion of Mr trump suggest he has never been immersed in the true sense of the word.
Although the thoughts of Donald Trump leave many surprise it leads us to important question of are we as global citizens motivating our young ones to immerse in other cultures. Are we opening their minds to different belief and cultural system that exist around the world and the very premise of each one understanding this will be very premise of “Global Peace”. We hope someone in his team really makes him travel the world but with an open minds and a big heart to accept the culture and take the best out of each place.
“One’s destination is never a place, but a new way of seeing things.”
― Henry Miller
