The endowment is for the Infosys Centre for Artificial Intelligence
Rao stated, “Infosys is a firm believer that the future will be transformed by automation and artificial intelligence. The Infosys Centre for Artificial Intelligence at IIIT-D will provide students and faculty an environment that encourages research in AI and related areas, providing an opportunity to work in the realm of truly transformational technologies. This contribution by the Infosys Foundation is a continuation of its efforts to encourage education and research in India and we look forward to sharing and exchanging knowledge with the members of this lab.”
The Centre which is to be headed by Dr Srikanth Saripalli, will focus on developing fundamental and applied aspects of artificial intelligence. Research will also cover subjects such as robotics, machine learning Computer Vision, AI for Software Systems, large-scale Data Analytics. The centre will soon start an M.Tech programme. IIIT Delhi faculty and PhD students will also be associated with research at the centre focusing on real time data and will work towards developing greater understanding of the applications of artificial intelligence and its potential for social benefits.
Speaking on the occasion Mrs Sudha Murty, Chairperson, Infosys Foundation stated, “As scientific advancement takes this nation forward, we must remember that the backbone of such achievements is research. Research programs require long investments of time and effort. The objective of our Center is to facilitate research in artificial intelligence that will greatly develop our society further. The team, led by Dr. Saripalli comprises some of the most skilled research experts and together we will endeavor to facilitate creative exchange of ideas in collaboration with IIIT Delhi and the government. We will also provide training opportunities for students and teachers in AI and robotics.”
